Marylebone High Street is eleven minutes end to end and Liana knows every doorway on it. She is 167 cm and slim, chestnut brown hair long and straight, brown eyes, and a way of entering a room that does not announce anything at all. At 28 she has settled into a style that is mostly good tailoring and very little jewellery.

She is simply unhurried, and she has learned that most men in this part of town are not.

Her evening usually starts at Trishna on Blandford Street, early enough to take the corner table, and she will order for the table if she is invited to. Afterwards it is six minutes to the hotels around Portman Square and about eight to the Marylebone Road side. This is her own neighbourhood, so a request at half past six can very often become a half past seven arrival, and she tells you honestly when it cannot. She walks everywhere inside W1 and owns no car.

Dinner is early and unhurried, the walk back is short, and the rest of the booking tends to be one room, low light and a conversation that gets somewhere. She is not a woman who needs a programme. Give her a start time and an end time and she fills the space between them with a kind of calm that is surprisingly hard to buy.
